Have you ever been searching for something on Google and switched to image search to find it more quickly? I'm betting you have and so have lots of other people. Image search is a great tool for the user and for your business.
Did you know that if the image you're looking for is not labeled correctly, meaning, if the image tag or image name doesn't have the words in it that you're searching for - it won't show up?
For example, in the sample show to the right, I searched for "vintage book about houses". Maybe I don't remember the name and seeing it will be much quicker than going through each website that shows up on the search.
If you have a website that sells vintage books about houses, but you have not used the "alt tag" for the image on your site and your image name is something like "img1256984.jpg" your image will not show up on this list or will be buried at the bottom.
According to research done in 2014, 63 percent of Google image search links turn into traffic. That means that 63% of people will click thorough from that image link and check out your site. Image search is a great opportunity to get those users on your site.
In addition, the correct image tags and photo tags will help your SEO. When Google scans your site they will know more clearly what your site is about if the images have the correct names. If they don't it's a mystery and therefore Google cannot recommend your site over other ones that have more information.
So, take the few extra minutes to label those images. It will help you in more ways than one.
